High potential and gifted education

Many students have high potential, and we help that potential to grow into something powerful. We recognise that high ability does not look the same in every student, and our goal is to nurture their strengths with personalised pathways, real-world challenges, and supportive relationships that empower them to excel. Gifted students are those whose potential significantly exceeds that of students of the same age in one or more subjects or areas.

Our unique school context offers rich opportunities for excellence across both Face-to-Face and Distance Education, allowing us to cater for a diverse range of learning styles, skillsets and interests. Whether students are working in a hands-on classroom, collaborating digitally, or pursuing independent study, they are encouraged to aim high and build confidence in their abilities. We are committed to supporting success — academic, social, artistic and sporting — at the highest levels.

What is high potential and gifted education?

High potential and gifted education (HPGE) is how our school supports students with advanced learning needs.

We do this through:

Our high potential and gifted education opportunities

Our students engage with HPGE education in the classroom, in our school, and across NSW.

In our classroom

At Camden Haven High School, we recognise that high potential comes in many forms — intellectual, creative, physical and social–emotional — and we are committed to nurturing these strengths in every classroom. We believe every student should have the chance to stretch their thinking, discover their passions and thrive in a supportive learning environment.

In our classrooms, teachers get to know their students deeply and use evidence-informed strategies to tailor learning experiences. We identify students’ learning needs early and provide targeted challenge through enrichment, extension and when appropriate, acceleration.

We design learning spaces that encourage curiosity, collaboration, risk taking and a sense of belonging. Students are regularly offered opportunities to extend their learning through:

Feedback is timely and purposeful, with clear goals and opportunities for students to reflect and self-assess. We measure impact through student work samples, growth over time and teacher–student reflection.

Students identified as high potential or gifted are provided with tailored learning pathways and advanced opportunities to engage deeply with their areas of strength — both inside and beyond the classroom.

At Camden Haven High School, high potential is not just recognised — it is cultivated.
