Cattle Team Rewarded for Hard Work at Kempsey Show

Earlier this month, 15 excited students awoke early to travel with their six cattle for the annual Kempsey show. Arriving just after 6am, students showed no signs of fatigue, preparing the cattle and themselves for the show ring. The standout results were Alana Fletcher Year 11, who placed first in the highly competitive 16/17 years junior judging, and Bianca Hamilton 13/14 years, classing the animals according to quality criteria and justifying their choices in front of a crowd of 200 spectators.

The quality of the cattle at the event was outstanding, and it certainly is a sign to see a 550kg beast being led by a 40kg student! One Limousin steers was awarded Reserve Champion in the heavy weight class and two of the Brahman steers also placed second in their respective weight classes. As well as this many students also got some “sash rash” in the junior parading.

All this bodes very well for the future with the show team really coming together to support and encourage each other. The students arrived home after dark, tired but elated and very much looking forward to Wingham Beef Week. A four day extravaganza of cattle showing, judging and educational activities.
