Community of Schools Robotics Competition

A group of Year 9 students have organised the seventh annual Camden Haven Community of Schools Robotics Competition held at our school for local primary schools.

Around 50 students from Laurieton, North Haven, Kendall, Hannam Vale and Johns River Primary Schools travelled to our MPC to build and program robots to compete in a series of activities.

The most anticipated event is the drag race, where student robots are raced along a 30cm wide and 10m long track. The difficulty with this competition is keeping robots on the track without compromising speed. In the first round, Laurieton Public School girl duo were the only team to complete the race. But after a few adjustments, the Hannam Vale robot completed the race in a faster speed, taking out the title.

Excitement built during the day with the arrival of the NBN News crew, with many students hanging out for an interview. Watch the video here!

Our Year 9 students organised the event, recorded scores, mentored students and decided on award recipients with the support of organising teacher Mr James Langley.

“You can’t ask for a better engineering development program than robotics,” said Mr Langley.

The primary school students were also treated to a demonstration of the Year 7 Technology robots.
