Distance Education News from Hunter Learning Hub

Student with Mr Bones

The Hunter Learning Hubs are operating at almost full capacity with currently 43 students attending across Monday to Friday. This is the highest number yet, with some of our senior students attending twice a week to help with their workload. We have recently had some changes to our locations:

  • Monday - Rutherford Community Centre  (Lisa and Mr S)

  • Tuesday - Toronto Multipurpose Centre (Lisa and Mr S and Tanya)

  • Wednesday - Warabrook Community Centre (Mr S and Dyann as Chrissy is on maternity leave)

  • Thursdays & Fridays - Cameron Park Community Centre (Lisa and Mr S)

Mondays at Rutherford are always full of work being completed as well as many discussions about animal care (Imogen), horses (Hannah), cars (Blake), movies (Kaitlyn and Caitlin). We have recently had the addition of Lorcan which has meant Mr S setting up his mobile Timber Workshop to help Lorcan complete his major timber project before the end of the year. Emilee is also a new student into our classroom and she has settled in very well. Jasmine is a new student to Rutherford who has transferred over from the Toronto Learning Hub and her excellent attendance rate has not changed!

Tuesdays at Toronto are equally as busy but the conversations are usually based on music (Jack  and Harry ) as well as hairdressing (Madalyn, Jaden and Tanya). Holly tries to educate us on all the ins and outs of Pro Wrestling as she can’t wait to attend a big wrestling show in October. Abbey likes to talk about Interior Design whilst Kaitlyn will have an opinion on any subject!

Wednesdays have recently changed from Jesmond to Warabrook but all students have given it a big thumbs up. They are waiting for more tables to really get this Learning Hub pumping.

Thursdays and Fridays are just as amazing at Cameron Park. The variety of interests of all our students continue to amaze both Lisa and Mr S where we both learn something new from our students every day! At Cameron Park Mr S sets up his mobile Electronics Lab for Andrew, Logan and Zac to hone their skills on their electronic projects. At the same time we have our two Liams, (L1 and L2) who continually keep us on our toes with their skills in photography and computers. Lisa has been learning some German words from Dylan which she hopes can be used in public and we all love seeing Kaitlyn’s skills on the Ice Rink. Thomas is our newest student who has been settling in well and loves to learn.

We will be saying a final goodbye to Darcee at the end of Term 3 as she completes her Year12 studies. This is sad for us as Darcee has been with us from Year 9 and worked hard to get to this point. We know that Darcee will do well in her post school endeavours as she launches herself into the Early Childhood field. Good luck Darcee!
