With great excitement and anticipation, 60 students and three staff set off at 4am Friday morning (8th April) towards a day of fun and showbags at the annual Sydney Royal Easter Show. Looking forward to all that the show offers; show food, the woodchop, arts and crafts, all the fun of the main ring, meandering through the maze of animal stalls dodging cow pats, and of course the show bag pavilion, the trip down was a mix of singing, snoring, laughing and happy banter.
Wide eyed and open mouthed, our students moved through the entrance of the show into the dazzling lights, sounds and colours that make the show all that it is. Heading straight to the ticket booths, our kids knew exactly what they wanted to do, hit the rides!! Once they had obtained their wrist bands unlimited rides could be had for the next four hours. Some hit them straight away, others entered the variety of pavilions offering sights and smells worthy of exploration.
Throughout the day big smiles became a fixture on our student’s faces and they continued to be entertained by all on offer. Showbags were bought after hours of thought, soft toys were won, and gadgets and gizmos could be seen in the hands of many.
As our day wound down to a close, it was evident that our kids had seen and done all that they could. Our final roll call in the show saw many weary faces with eyes half closed as they sat holding their precious memories either won or bought, subdued voices recalling the fun they had had during the day.
As we headed home many voiced their thanks and said they were now looking forward to enjoying another day at the Sydney Royal Easter Show, next year.
