NSW School Nanga Mai Awards
The Nanga Mai Awards are an annual event organised by Aboriginal Education and Communities Directorate. The awards recognise and celebrate innovation, excellence and educational achievement in Aboriginal education in NSW public schools, school communities and department directorates.
Premier’s Reading Challenge
This Premier’s Reading Challenge encourages students from Kindergarten to Year 9 to develop a love of reading and plays an important role in developing literacy.
Premier’s Debating Challenge
The Premier’s Debating Challenge is open to students from Year 5 to 12. Teams compete in a round robin series of debates against other schools. The winners go on to compete at regional and state level to determine the eventual state champion.
Public speaking competitions
The Arts Unit offers public speaking competitions for NSW school students. Each competition is a great opportunity for students to develop their speech-writing and presentation skills while representing their schools in a state-wide competition.
Premier’s ANZAC Memorial Scholarships
The Premier’s ANZAC Memorial Scholarships are an opportunity to visit significant overseas sites associated with Australia’s participation in war for Years 10 and 11 students in selected schools.
Duke of Edinburgh Award
The Duke of Edinburgh Award provides an internationally recognised, self-development program for people aged 14 to 25. The program equips young people with the opportunity to undertake a variety of voluntary and challenging activities.

Long Tan Leadership Award
The Australian Defence Force has generously supported our school for a number of years with the Long Tan award for students in year 10 and 12 who demonstrate excellence in team work and leadership. To read more see their website.

Laurieton Rotary Club Award
The Laurieton Rotary presents a year 12 student with this award for showing outstanding citizenship service within the community. For more information, see the Laurieton Rotary website.
Laurieton United Services Club Traineeship
This award is competitively sought by students, who will receive this traineeship in Business Services.
Mid Coast Connect Vocational Education Award

North Coast Institute of TAFE Award for Excellence at TAFE

Lions Club Encouragement Award
This award is offered to junior students who show outstanding effort in community service working toward bettering the local area.
CHHS P&C Personal Achievement Award
This is awarded to a Distance Education student who has shown significant personal achievement with their studies.
CHHS P&C Consistent Academic Achievement
This award is available for junior students who show devotion and diligence to their studies.
David Gillespie Award for Leadership
This award is given to a student who shows outstanding leadership skills in the school and community environments.
Ruben F Scarf Award
This is given to students who display an intense desire to improve and demonstrate a consistent high level of application to their studies. Information on the award can be found on their website.
Ampol Best All Rounder Award
As implied by its name this award targets students who show high levels of success in multiple disciplines. Information on the award can be found on their website.
Widden Group SBAT Award
This award is given to a year 12 student undertaking a traineeship.
Cultural Citation in Creative Arts
This award recognises an individual who has contributed to the Creative Arts in areas other than school representation or course success.
Gold Cultural Award in Creative Arts
This award recognises an individual who has represented the school in one or more fields of the creative arts over a lengthy period.
Outstanding Achievement in Creative Arts
This award recognises an individual who has achieved outstanding success in one or more Creative Arts courses.
CHHS Dedication to Learning Award
As indicated by its name this award is given to a student who has demonstrated an outstanding dedication and perseverance to their studies during their senior years.
CHHS Award for Highest Academic Achievement
This award is given to the Assessment Dux based on the schools entered HSC assessment results.
ICAS Mathematics Awards
These awards are available to all students prepared to compete in the ICAS mathematics contest. More information can be found here.
Australian Geography Competition

Australian Economics and Business Studies Competition

Premier's Secondary School Sport Challenge

CHHS Blues
These are awarded to students who excel in their area of sporting at the zone level. This can include selection in the zone representative team or being selected to on behalf of the zone.
Sports Citation Awards
These are awarded to students who produce outstanding sporting achievements. This can include selection to representative teams.
Science & Engineering Challenge
This is a national contest, locally run by the University of Newcastle. Students have to use their logic and lateral thinking to solve a problem that is presented to them with a limited set of resources.
Outstanding Achievement Award
This award is given to students who represent the school in a state or national team for a sport that is not part of the Combined High Schools program.
Sporting Gold Recognition Award
Any senior student in their final year may receive this award if they have had a successful sporting career throughout their schooling including non-playing capacity.
University of New England for Academic Excellence
