Camden Haven High School

Aim for the Highest

Home Economics

Home Economics encompasses a broad range of subjects which engage students in practical experiences which they will be able to transfer to study, work and training in later life.

Our subjects range from Food Technology and Textiles Technology through to Hospitality. The Home Economics faculty encourages students to develop individual talent, practical and decision making skills and explore issues allowing them to make informed and appropriate choice in the future. The principles of STEM are integrated into each of our subjects from Year 7 Technology Mandatory to Year 12 Food Technology.

Our kitchen and textile practical rooms are well equipped and maintained. Our staff are well trained and dedicated to engage students in lessons that will extend their knowledge and skills in the food, textiles and hospitality subject area. We cater for students wishing to follow a career in the food technology, nutrition, design textiles and hospitality fields.

All students participate in Technology Mandatory in Years 7 and 8. Through this subject students are offered a diversity of learning experiences that encourage both independent and collaborative learning. They also develop skills in designing, planning, managing and evaluating which are transferrable across the curriculum.

In Years 9 and 10 students choose from the following range of subjects:

  • Food Technology
  • Textiles Technology

In Years 11 and 12 students can choose from the following range of subjects

  • Food Technology
  • Textiles and Design
  • VET Hospitality

For students studying VET Hospitality there is an opportunity to attend Sea World Hotel School each year. Whilst staying at the hotel, students learn the behind the scene of a career in hospitality working with experienced hotel professionals exploring the various departments that make up the hotel.
