Eating, Travelling and Painting

たべあるき。

In Japanese the term to travel/walk and eat is たべあるき。(Tabearuki – tabemasu means to eat and arukimasu means to walk and shorten them both to make a new term of walking and eating).

This term, Year 9 and 10 have been learning about and discovering the countries of Japan and China. In Japan, we have discussed many festivals and cultural activities such as Yuki Matsuri (Snow festival), Setsubun (New Year’s festival), Hinamatsuri (Doll’s Day) and Hanami (Cherry blossom viewing). We have also tasted a few different types of Japanese foods such as Pocky (chocolate covered pretzels) and mochi (sticky rice cakes).

The students have also created their own landmark/monument art work with beautiful skylines. I loved seeing what the students created and how the students blended the colours and used different techniques with sponges and brushes.

Next term we will be studying Indonesia and Vietnam and starting to look at travel blogs and we will start creating our own travel blog in the Google Classroom.
