Now entering its 10th Year, the Camden Haven High School Robotics Team always have a frenetic third term. From humble beginnings with one team with one Lego robot, in 2019 we entered the Robocup season with 5 teams and 10 robots, in the Open Soccer competition. The Open robot soccer players are fully electronic, compiled from parts purchased from every corner of the internet, controlled through an Arduino board and programmed in C++. This is the second year Opens for most team members, and so all are still considered novices. The teams mostly consist of students in Years 7 to 10, so there is plenty of time for development.
The Robocup season begins with the Hunter Regionals, held at Uni of Newcastle on August 7. There were only two schools competing in the Open Division at this level, the other being Merewether (selective) High School. Being the first event, this is mostly a build day and focussing of the minds. We left at 6am with 0/10 working robots. After 4 games each we were up to 5/10, but still qualified for the final and third place playoff. Team 'All Mixed Up', Daniel Elliot and Jordan Thorne came second.
Next up is the NSW Championships. We are currently defending second and third place in Open, and seeking to go one better. The final event of our season is the Nationals, this year in Melbourne. Team Ambosch came sixth in 2018. A podium finish in the Nationals earns a team the right to represent Australia in the World Championships, this season to be held in Burgundy France.
