Geography Field Trip a Success

students at beach

On Friday 28th February we had wonderful weather for Year 10 Geography classes to undertake their mandatory field work at Lake Cathie. We also used the day to clean up a large area around the lake as part of our Clean Up Australia Day activities.

Students completed seven activities on the day including studying how people use the area, plants and how they protect the dunes, how to use a number of field work instruments, studying longshore drift and reading the speed of currents.

This was the 18th time we have run the trip and every year we are impressed with how wonderful our students and their teachers are.

Our Year 8 Geography students also completed observations and line drawings as part of a unit on geographical research. Although their field trip was far closer, they were excited to get out of the classroom for hands-on learning (below).
