News from the VDEC Learning Hub

Chace year 8 hiking in Carnarvon

The VDEC Learning Hub has grown this term with CHHS DE students from far and wide enjoying having weekly support as well as interaction with a few of their peers!
We have had a number of new students join our online Learning Hub this year, in particular some of our travelling students. It has been wonderful to hear the adventurous tales as these students have made their way around different parts of Australia such as the beautiful beaches in South Australia, the hot springs of Mataranka, the crystal blue waters of the Great Barrier Reef, the red dirt of Alice Springs and the impressive outback landmarks of the Olgas and Uluru - just to name a few!
The students are becoming increasingly confident to share their ideas with each other in our weekly sessions, often helping each other by brainstorming for their learning activities and finding a sense of community in their shared experiences.
One of our Year 10 VDEC students, Rosie, completed a few weeks of work experience in Term 1 at a Veterinary hospital up in Cairns. Rosie found many aspects of the job enjoyable thanks to her love of animals - but on reflection realises it’s not the job for her and is now more excited than ever to pursue a career helping other people such as a community nurse. It’s fantastic to see our students thinking about their future directions, being proactive and making things happen!
I look forward to welcoming more new students over the course of the term to provide support, clarity, encouragement and facilitate some simple peer interaction - all of which are invaluable in making the DE journey just that little bit more manageable.
