Camden Haven High School Year 11 students, Kyla B and Adam P, won the NSW Robocup Junior Open Soccer Competition held in Sydney on August 23. This division of the competition was the most technically challenging of the eleven contested by hundreds of students from across NSW at Holy Cross College, Ryde over two days. Camden Haven High School’s Year 7 team of Aurora B and Zion C came second in the same division.
These successes follow years of development of the Arbot system at CHHS which allows every Year 7 or Year 8 student to learn mandatory coding via mechatronics.
Team supervisor Mr James Langley said, “While the team demonstrated excellent coding and electronics skills across the months of preparation, it wasn’t until under the pressure of competing at the championships that the extent of their rapid-fire problem-solving skills shone through. It’s great to see this competition running again after years of COVID disruption."
Newly crowned NSW Champion, Kyla B, said, “The most important part of the competition was everything I learned while I was there. “
The Team will now travel to Adelaide and the National Competition, where the top three in each major division will earn the right to travel to France for the International Competition later in the year.
The CHHS Robotics Team must now seek new relationships with sponsors to assist with travel costs.
