Welcome to Term 2!

learning from home plan

Welcome back!

We hope you enjoyed your break and had a happy Easter long weekend! This has been a challenging time and we hope you made the most of your holidays even in isolation.

Students resume Wednesday 29 April

Monday and Tuesday of Week 1 are Staff Development days. When students resume on Wednesday the learning mode will continue as it was last term - learning from home. Students are advised to stay at home if possible for at least the first two weeks of term. School is open to students from Wednesday if they are unable to learn from home. There is no advantage to students learning from school because we have implemented a continuation of learning model where all students are given the same materials. School buses operate as normal

We will inform the school community directly as information and advice becomes available. Parents/carers, staff and students will receive text messages and emails with updates as we have done previously.

Online Live Lessons Start Week 2

Students in Years 7-10 have been scheduled for online lessons in each subject. Each teacher will conduct a 30 minute live lesson to complement coursework for that week and provide an opportunity for students to ask questions. These lessons will take place through Canvas or Zoom and students will be required to check their school email daily for the lesson link. Find out more and view student timetables on our Online Lessons page.

Not all students have access to technology at home so we are helping those most in need to ensure continuity of education. Those families who have requested assistance will be allocated devices in two rounds, with priority given to families without any devices.

First round of device allocation - families with no devices and/or internet:

So far we have handed out 116 laptops to students. Families who were on the first round of device allocation (not having a device and/or internet at home) based on the survey last term or through phone contact with the school have been allocated a laptop and/or dongle.  An SMS has been sent to the designated families to pick the laptop/s up from the front office from Monday 27th April. The people who requested a dongle in this group will receive one when they arrive.

Second round of device allocation - extra devices:

The school ordered a further 200 laptops and 100 internet dongles at the end of Term 1 and hope to have them delivered in Week 1 although there have been postage delays nation-wide. Once these arrive all others who requested laptops and dongles as per the survey and/or contact with the school will receive an SMS to collect from the front office.

If you would like to request additional technology, please phone the school to talk about your options.

State plan for returning to school

The NSW Department of Education have announced the plan for students returning to school in Term 2, with flexibility given to schools to implement staggered returns. We will contact families and keep you informed on how we are implementing this at our school. At this stage, with constantly changing circumstances and information, we will not be announcing Week 3 plans until further notice. Rest assured all parents/carers and students will be informed in advance of changes to the Learning from Home model.

We are currently in PHASE 0 of the Managed Return to School model. We will inform you when the situation changes.
